Participatory training and curriculum development for Farmer Field Schools in Guyana and Suriname: A field guide on Integrated Pest Management and aquaculture in rice. The curriculum emphasizes the strategy of integrating fish into rice production systems in Guyana and Suriname, through IPM, under the Farmer Field School participatory approach. The material presents procedures of activities to be undertaken aimed at providing an opportunity for rice farmers in realizing additional income, higher crop yield and reduced cost of production, by reducing their spending on the purchase of pesticides through farmer education. Intended for use by FFS participants and facilitators, the curriculum was developed by trainees of an IPM rice-fish TOT and attached FFSs in South America with FAO technical guidance under an FAO Technical Cooperation Project. 1-2-3 of Fruit Fly Monitoring (Agro-ecosystem Analysis): Guidelines for IPM Trainers and Farmers. This document enlists the major 1-2-3 indicators that could help the Fruit Fly IPM Trainers and farmers to monitor the population dynamics of the fruit fly while implementing various management strategies. Field Exercise Guide on Fruit Flies Integrated Pest Management. These exercise guides details the major aspects on fruit flies IPM intended to be used by IPM Trainers either at Farmer Field Schools or Training of Trainers’ Courses on Fruit Fly IPM. Field Guide on Gender and IPM. This Field Guide on Gender and IPM addresses some of the constraints for women to participate in IPM training, and to formulate an action plan for the IPM programme to better address women’s participation in the programme. The guide aims to: (1) increase knowledge and awareness on the roles and responsibilities of women in agriculture; (2) create understanding that women can be as capable participants in IPM activities as men; (3) improve skills to discuss with village leaders when preparing for an FFS and explaining why women should be represented in FFS reflecting their roles and responsibilities in agriculture in the village where an FFS will be organized; and (4) improve planning skills to include gender issues and develop plans that include gender and ways to carry out these plans. Field Guide Exercises for Integrated Rat Management
This Manual contains study designs, ecosystem analysis and exercises that farmer groups can carry out in order to understand rats better and develop methods on how farmer groups can organize their communities to manage rats. The exercises cover biology, ecology, behaviour, observation methods, mapping, management options, designing action plans for community rat management. Food Safety Manual for Farmer Field Schools (Part I and Part II)

Concept Note and Compilation of Session Guides on Biofumigation. Provides a background on the concept of biofumigation, the agronomic practice of using volatile chemicals (allelochemicals) to suppress soil-borne pests and pathogens. The material also provides examples of session guides used in Cambodia and China to introduce the concept in IPM Training of Trainers' courses. Farmers’ Life School Manual. The training manual documents the joint initiative between FAO IPM Programme and the UNDP SEAHIV Programme that resulted in the development of Farmers’ Life Schools in Cambodia. The manual documents the empowerment process through which farmers decide for themselves how to build their resilience, including resistance to HIV/AIDS risks. The manual contains the framework to confront local concerns that the community faces and curriculum for a Farmers’ Life School aimed at building on the risk assessment knowledge based on a holistic approach to address problems enable them to become effective decision makers for their own lives, their families and communities. The material is part of a series of training and learning instruments developed and published by World Education (INGO) Philippines, Inc. This manual was produced to promote better understanding of the vegetable ecosystem as well as to teach the healthy and economical production practices for a particular vegetable crop. The manual is a compilation of information on vegetable production that will facilitate growing vegetables using IPPM methods.
